On Saturday 9th August, our Quarry & Asphalt Division facilitated a visit of the Belfast Naturalists' Field Club to our Carmean quarry. Founded nearly 150 years ago, the club caters for those interested in archaeology, botany and geology.
After a brief introduction to the geology of the quarry, the visitors spent the rest of their limited time on site fossil hunting over a particularly rich fossil bearing area. The group collected many fossil sea urchins, ammonites, sponges, brachiopods and gastropods.
The visitors were guided by Angus Kennedy and Paul McCollum.
